It was difficult to put this family together, basically because of the lack of information in the Old Parish Records.
Helen & Christina were born in Monifieth and Isoble & John in Liff, Dundee. The first two birth records include both father's & mother's names, while the last two have only the father's name.
Moreover, the first two in Monifieth are written as Ruthven, while the last two in Liff are Riven.
But about 20 years later, when three of the family died in Liff, they are recorded as Ruthven.
We cannot be certain that these three deaths in 1817 and 1819 are from this family, but no alternatives have been found.
